Lanzarote Marathon 2010

We’re marking the 28th November in our calendars for the up and coming Lanzarote Marathon.
Runners of all ages from all over the world will be arriving in Arrecife to participate in the event which includes ¼, ½ and full marathons as well as team and kids’ marathons.

The course has been designed by the Canary Islands’ foremost runner, Jose Carlos Hernándes Cabrera and will take competitors along the capital’s newly completed promenade, past the sculptures by local artists. Of course, the sculptures will just be a blur to the runners but spectators can enjoy them in between cheering on our favourite athletes.

And speaking of local heroes, we’ll be watching out for Rafa Botello who’ll be competing in the wheelchair category. Rafa tours the world competing in events and participated in the Bejiing Paralympics.

Anyone who’s familiar with Sands Beach will know that we’re passionate about utilising Lanzarote’s ideal terrain and year round spring climate to promote the mental and physical health benefits of sports activities, so it will come as no surprise to learn that we’re sponsoring the Lanzarote Marathon.
In fact, we’re sponsoring a charity organisation based here on Lanzarote called Tri W.W.W which is dedicated to using sports as a medium to helping people with disabilities, reduced mobility and functional diversity.

So if you’re coming along to watch, be sure to keep an eye out for Rafa and the Tri W.W.W participants and help us to cheer them on.
Better still, why not come and help out? Volunteers get to share in all the fun and excitement and receive a T shirt as a souvenir of the day.
See you there!
