Surfs up at Sands Beach Resort

The best surfers in the World converged on Lanzarote for the Islas Canarias Santa Pro 2009 and the Six Stars Prime Event. Naturally they wanted to launch the competition in style and chose Sands Beach Resort Hotel in Costa Teguise as the ideal venue.

The action took place at Famara on Playa de San Juan, as they all chased the 145,000 dollars of prize money. Before that, new and old surf stars from around the World gathered at Sands to give the international media a chance to get up close. Pictured above are (from left to right) Councilor of sport for the  Cabildo of Lanzarote,  professional surfers Patrick Beven y José María Cabrera,  Councillor of tourism for the Canarian government Rita Martín, the Mayor of Teguise Pedro Hernandez and  Director of Sands Beach Resort Juan Carlos Albuixech.

Patick Bevan (France), Brett Simpson (USA), and the Canary Islands own Jonathan Gonzalez and Jose Maria Cabrera were among the surfers enjoying the build up, and the hospitality, including an evening barbecue. Holiday makers are used to being pampered at Sands Beach, the facilities are perfect for a great beachfront family holiday.
